Reports from various news outlets indicate that Buhari held a meeting with Tinubu on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory, where a special function hosted by the office of the Secretary-General to the Federation (SGF) took place to facilitate the formal transfer of power from Buhari’s administration to Tinubu’s.

As part of this process, the transitional documents were handed over to Tinubu by “Executive Order 14,” which mandates the transition council to submit handover notes to the incoming President.  Continue Full Reading>>>

Ohuegbe, who serves as the Director of Publication at The Pilot Newspaper, recently expressed his concerns during an appearance on Africa Independent Television’s ‘Kaakaki’ program. He characterized the act of handing over documents to a President-elect before their official swearing-in as “strange” and “unconstitutional.”

He further pointed out that since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, no Head of State has transferred transition documents to their successor before the Chief Justice of Nigeria administers the oath of office on May 29.

According to Ohuegbe, Nigerians must be informed about the undisclosed details that are being withheld from them. He emphasized the importance of a completely open and transparent system, questioning the order in which the oath of office is administered and the subsequent transfer of paperwork.

Traditionally, these events occur at Eagle Square in Abuja on the day of the inauguration. Ohuegbe stressed that the outgoing administration should prioritize alleviating the current stress by demonstrating transparency and honesty throughout the transition process.

In his words: “Unless the court determines differently, there is no question that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President-elect. However, it remains unclear why Buhari has chosen today to hand over transition documents to Tinubu.

On Monday, May 29, what will transpire then? Do they know something we don’t? The CJN is authorized to administer the oath of office to the President-elect by the 7th schedule of the modified Constitution of 1999. Why, then, would it make sense to turn in the paperwork today rather than on Monday? As far as I’m concerned, it’s against the law and downright weird.
