This was also as the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, unveiled other cases cracked by the Command.
Abass said aside the two women, other suspects involved in kidnapping, One Chance robbery, and drug trafficking are currently in police custody.
During the operations leading to the arrests of these suspects, operatives recovered one English berretta and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Ak-47 ammunition.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, explained that in an earlier development, operatives of ‘A’ division Warri on May 16, 2023 received a complaint from a 75-year-old woman, who narrated that she was selling her goods when the female suspects” 23-year-old Favour Aloh of Tipper Junction and 32-year-old Ginikach Nina of Onitsha in Anambra State, came with some fake currencies to buy her wares. The two suspects were immediately trailed and arrested, said Edafe.
In another development at about 2:15pm, the Commander, Rapid Response Squad, a Superintendent of Police, Omouwuigbe Nosakhare, acted on credible intelligence about a suspect who hibernates somewhere in Warri but is a member of a dreaded kidnap syndicate.
Edafe said: “SP Omouwuigbe Nosakhare led operatives of RRS and stormed the suspect’s hideout in Uvwie LGA of Delta State, where the suspect named Cyril Efe, who is 25 years old, of Ohorhe community was arrested.
“A search warrant was executed on his premises where one English Berretta pistol and 15 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition were recovered.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
Similarly, on May 24, the Command’s Decoy squad led by the Commander, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, SP Julius Robinson, embarked on a covert operation.
Edafe explained: “This operation was sequel to a previous complaint lodged by a victim of ‘One Chance’ robbery who was robbed by this syndicate on the 16th of May at about 7pm, along Benin-Asaba Expressway close to Asaba airport, carting away her handbag and other valuables.
“On 24th of May, the operatives armed with technically derived information on the suspects trailed and arrested one 31-year-old Ananias Omachefu Akoji from Kogi State but resident at Okwe, Asaba. The suspect led the operatives to Abraka Market where the leader of the gang named Chinedu Sunday, 33 years old, was arrested. The victim’s SIM card was recovered from him.
“During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and took the operatives to their hideout where properties of the victim and other suspected stolen items were recovered.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of two other suspects who usually buy some of these stolen items from them.
“They are all in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.”
On the same day at about 10am, operatives attached to Orerokpe Division, while on intensive stop and search and visibility patrol along Jeddo Road, intercepted Tuji Oyeniwe, 38, of Small-Town Street, Jeddo Community with a suspicious-looking bag.
The suspect was subjected to a search during which weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other hard drugs in large quantities were found in his possession and packaged in a mini rubber cup for sale.
“The suspect was promptly arrested and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation also revealed that he is suspected to be a notorious drug peddler in Okpe and its environs. The effort to arrest his accomplices is ongoing,” said Edafe.
According to Edafe, the Command under the leadership of Abass is leaving no stone unturned as it has continued to sustain the successful tempo in the fight against crime and criminality which is largely due to the proactive approach adopted by the Commissioner of Police Delta state command.
The CP also assured residents that the police will not allow criminally minded persons in the state to have peace, noting that the police will fish them out from their place of abode and ensure they are brought to justice.
Abass commended officers and men of the command for their tireless efforts in crime fighting and admonished them to sustain the tempo.
He urged members of the public to take advantage of all available channels to reach out to the police and avail the police of all useful and timely information that will aid in crime fighting.
