He said in an interview with Arise Tv news that there was a time Nigeria also had Christians as Senate and Deputy President in the Parliament.

According to him, religion does not matter in this case, and that the constitution of Nigeria does not recognize if one is a Muslim or a Christian.

He said, ”So people are saying Muslim, Muslim, Muslim. I haven’t seen anywhere in the constitution that says Christian or Muslim must be President.

By the way, the constitution did not even recognise Islam or Christianity. The only thing the Constitution recognizes is the right religion.

The constitution protects me that I can be Christian today and I can be Muslim tomorrow. The Constitution did not recognize religion affiliation to be appointed to political office.

There is nothing wrong with having Muslims as Senate President and Deputy Senate President. If the parliament decides to do a Muslim-Muslim, its the business of the parliament.

There was a time the Senate decided to take a Christian as Senate President and Deputy Senate President. The speaker was also a Christian as well. It happened in this country.”
