Professor [Mrs] Nnenna Oti, the Abia State Presiding Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, has discussed her experience during the Abia state general election that resulted in Alex Otti being declared the victor. The professor disclosed that the individuals wishing to tamper with the findings had threatened her life.
She claimed that threats had been made about what would happen to her if the outcome didn’t suit them. But she insisted that she would not budge because the will of the people must be respected. If you remember, Professor Nnenna Oti abruptly called off the Abia state election due to irregularities in some local governments, especially in the local government of Obingwa where the INEC office was allegedly broken into by thugs. Before she declared the election results, the Professor had requested that the BVAS be sent to Abuja for forensic examination.
She stated:
”As an electoral officer, I have never in life participated in any election. My duties came calling and I made my inquiries from Abuja. They came with threats and intimidation but I said if I perish, I perish. They came with money but I refused. I didn’t start today, I stand here before God and I have never defrauded anyone.
