According to a report by Daily Trust, Daniel’s condition began after an accident in 2003, where he was gored by a bull while stepping out of a delivery truck for his job in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Over the years, he has been moved between hospitals and shelters, undergoing surgeries and treatments that were often stopped due to insufficient funds.
In 2015, a charity that had been funding his medical bills was no longer able to do so, and Daniel was relocated to Dutse-Makaranta to be closer to a center where he could receive physiotherapy.
He also battled an infection under his genitals for nine years, which stemmed from a sore he developed in 2006. In addition to the infection, he had pressure sores that had eaten deep into his buttocks and sides, and osteoporosis had made his bones fragile. His knees and joints had stiffened due to lack of use.
Despite all this, Daniel expressed gratitude for his life on his birthday, noting that he has no wife or children.
