Bianca Ojukwu, Ebonyi founding fathers mourn Anyim Ude

The elder statesman who represented Ebonyi South in the senate from 2007-2011, passed on Monday, May 15, at 82.

Bianca expressed shock over Ude’s passage, saying “this is so sad, such an affable and erudite personality. Brilliant as they come.”

Ebonyi founding fathers said his demise was a big loss, not only to them, but to the people of Ebonyi State and the nation in general.

Secretary of the forum, Dr. Boniface Chima, told Daily Sun that Ude as a distinguished son of the state contributed so much in the struggle for the creation of Ebonyi State, and to the development of journalism in Nigeria.  Continue Full Reading>>>

“It is sad that we are losing him at this time that we needed his wise counsel which he acquired over the years. He was a great asset to Ebonyi Founding Fathers Forum. We are asking God to give his immediate family and the people of Ebonyi State the fortitude to bear his irreparable loss,” Chima said.

Another member of the forum and Chairman of Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, described the deceased as a consummate broadcaster who lived a simple and unassuming life.

Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ebonyi State, Dr. Benjamin Igwenyi, said Ude was a colossus who dominated the nation’s broadcasting for decades.

“He was a godly man, who does not want to make a mistake. Before he contested for Senate, the then Governor of the State, Dr. Sam Egwu had to convince him more than ten times before he accepted. He did not want to contest and fail. He was also a good family man. It is a big loss.”

Also, former Commissioner for Information in the state, Abia Onyike, said Ude was one of the disciples of the late Dr. Akanu Ibiam.

“He was a product of Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar and imbibed the culture of perseverance, simplicity, honesty, forthrightness, transparency and Godliness, just like Akanu Ibiam. These are the virtues for which all the Ebonyi pioneers were known. Ude was a colossus who lived and led by example,” Onyike said.
